 Here is a bit or ‘rat’ trivia for you:

·          Originally from Asia, the brown rat arrived in Britain around 250 years ago.

·          Rats average 40 cm in length.

·          Female brown rats can give birth to around 40 babies a year.

·          A female rat is ready to breed when she is 11 weeks old and weighs only four ounces.

·          Rats need a massive amount of food to survive and they eat the equivalent of a third of their body weight every day.

·          The brown rat can carry many diseases, including salmonella.

·          Black rats, a brown rat relative, is thought to have been responsible for transmitting the bubonic plague in 14th century Europe.

·          Rats are most commonly found near farms, in rubbish dumps and in sewers and they are excellent swimmers.
